Lupita Maria Lujan

LA GARITA — Lupita Maria Lujan was born on April 13, 1931 in La Garita, Colorado to Pete and Abelina Martinez. God blessed her with nearly 90 years of life on this earth until He called her home on March 23, 2021.

Growing up in Center, Colorado, she loved to get dressed up and go to the town dances. This is where she met the love of her life, Isidoro “AC” Lujan. They were married on May 31, 1953, and lived in Seven Mile Plaza (Monte Vista), Colorado where they raised a family and spent almost 68 loving years together.

Lupita was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. All that she did, she did with her family in mind. She loved with all her heart and there was nothing she would not do for her loved ones. Her life beautifully displayed love that was devoted, sacrificial, and pure.

She touched and inspired so many lives with her kind heart, her sense of humor, and her love for life. Anytime she went into town, she would run into friends and neighbors. It always made us laugh because she would constantly be waving to others and would stop to talk and say in her classic “Lupita” voice, “Hello!” She enjoyed chatting on the phone with her children, family, and friends—so much so that she kept the telephone in her apron pocket. One of her all-time favorite things to do was to go gambling. She was an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother who proudly displayed photos of all her grandchildren in her home and kept every letter they ever sent her. She was an amazing cook who enjoyed spending time in the kitchen preparing delicious meals for her husband and family.  And every Sunday, she devoted her time to going to church—and cheering on her Broncos.

Another love of her life was her relationship with God. She had a generous heart and was known for her devotion in praying for others. Even in her last days, she would sit, close her eyes, and pray. She never complained; and she chose to see everything that came her way as coming from God’s perfect will for her life. She clung to her faith and trust in Jesus in all seasons. She leaves behind a legacy of being a faithful servant.

Lupita is survived by her husband, Isidoro “AC” Lujan; their seven children, Barb (Tom) Vigil, John Lujan (Ilene Dupont), Glen (Teresa) Archuleta, Liz (Robert) Marquez, Donna Lujan (Don Pacheco), Sabrina (Paul) Gallegos, and Tomas (Pat) Lujan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her mother and father, her daughter Lucy Lujan and all her brothers and sisters.

Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.  Arrangements in the care of Strohmayer’s Funeral Home.
