Man accused of stabbing grandparents

BLANCA — A 30-year-old man is facing an array of felonies in connection with an incident early June 2 in which he allegedly stabbed both his grandparents, according to reports from the Blanca Town Marshal.

Assistant Chief Rick Rodriguez reported Daniel Ontiveros was with his grandparents on the 600 block of Broadway in Blanca when the incident occurred. The grandmother was flown out to a Pueblo hospital and the grandfather was taken to San Luis Valley Health.

Ontiveros fled the scene, but was spotted by Chief Paul Quintana walking in a weeded area not far from the assault scene. He was arrested without incident.

Held without bond in the Costilla County Jail pending a court appearance, Ontiveros faces two counts of criminal attempt at first-degree murder, a Class 2 felony; two counts of second-degree assault, a Class 3 felony; two counts of crimes against at-risk adults, Class 2 felonies; robbery, identity theft, forgery and tampering with physical evidence, Class 4,5 and 6 felonies.
