Man in custody after Hooper stabbing Tuesday night

HOOPER– A 32-year-old male is in custody following a stabbing incident that has left a 29-year-old man in serious condition in a Colorado Springs hospital.

Sgt. Sam Coffman, lead investigator with the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, said the incident occurred at a home on Madison Street here about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim was stabbed 10-12 times with wounds to both the head and abdomen, Coffman said.

An alleged suspect is in custody pending bond setting and Coffman declined to release the names of either the victim or the suspect pending further investigation.

The victim was transported by ambulance to SLV Health and subsequently flown to Colorado Springs.

Coffman said the man had undergone at least two surgeries on Wednesday and was in intensive care but was showing small signs of improvement.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene of the incident in Hooper at a home occupied by the two males and one female at the time, Coffman said, noting that the case was not domestic in nature. The weapon was not recovered on scene, he said.
