MANCOS – The season came to an end for the 10th-seeded Sanford High School football team as it was defeated by third-seeded Mancos 26-16 Saturday in the 8-man state semifinals  at the Bluejays’ field.

Senior Kelton Gartrell gave the Indians an 8-0 lead late in the first quarter. However, Mancos sophomore Kail Wayman scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to give the Bluejays a 14-8 lead at halftime.

Mancos junior James Wagoner scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to extend the Bluejays’ lead to 26-8 at the end of the quarter.

Junior Ayden Mathews threw all four of Mancos’ touchdowns.

The Indians attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter with Gartrell scoring his second touchdown of the game. However, they could come no closer.
