Alamosa resident Marcelino R. Ramirez, 90, Joined his beloved honey Helen in heaven on October 27, 2017 at his home under Hospice Care with all his loving family by his side. Marcelino was born on June 2, 1927 in Marathon, Texas. He was a father, grandpa and uncle to many. He was our family patriarch. Early in his life he joined the Army and became a Ranger and served in World War II, in the 82nd Airborne. When he came home from completing his duties he worked alongside his father in the agricultural industry running crews around the Southwest. He was a sheep shearer from a young age and also worked construction. He went on to receive a certificate in welding from Trinidad State Junior College. He always strived to better himself in order to provide for his family. During his time in the Valley, he met the love of his life Helen Lujan and settled in Alamosa where they started their family. He was a Commander and District Commander of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He treasured his family and was always a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and storytelling. He passed on his love of music, singing, dancing and being fearless.  He was an exceptional man, provider, and role model to our family and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his six daughters Frances Martinez, Lidia (Lucio) Fernandez, Carolina Ramirez, Maria Helena Sandoval, Rosario "Chio" Ramirez, Linda Johnson, his only son Marcelino (Barbara) Ramirez, Melaine (Derrick) Gurule, also help raise many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marcelino was preceded in death by the love of his life Helen L. Ramirez, grandson Juan Pablo Ramirez, son in laws Manuel M. Martinez, Louie B. Sandoval, parents Natividad and Lydia Ramirez, siblings Claudio Ramirez, Angela Martinez and Pete Martinez.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery with full military honors. Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-7 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
