Antonito resident Maria Ceobia Casias, 88, passed away November 30, 2017 at the Evergreen Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. Maria was born on January 19, 1929 in No Agua, New Mexico, the daughter of Jose Eulogio Barela and Sofia Montoya Barela. She was a life member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary Post #4849 of La Jara. Maria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening, raising chickens, making tortillas and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter Lorraine (Danny) Espinoza of Antonito, CO; sons Ernie (Louise) Casias of Albuquerque, NM; Marvin (Tina) Casias, Jasper (Irene) Casias both of Antonito, CO; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sister Mable (Charlie) Duran of Roy, UT. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents Jose and Sofia Barela, husband Gaspar Casias, daughter Lorraine Casias, sisters Adela Duran, Beroniz Johnson, Tina Martinez, Rosa Gallegos, Selma Duran and Antonia Dwyer.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Ortiz Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held Sunday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.
