PUEBLO— The AHS baseball squad (10-4) traveled to Pueblo Wednesday afternoon to take on the Dolores Huerta Prep Scorpions (9-6) in a non-league matchup at Runyon Field Sports complex. Riding a nine-game win streak, the Moose defeated DHPS 15-3.

The Maroons’ bats remained hot, led by Caden Alonzo, Kolton Hillis, Jose Manriquez and Ben Wuckert, who all drove in runs. Alamosa had a total of 13 hits in the game while the Scorpions only managed one. Jared Carson, Hillis, Chance Strand and Wuckert all managed multiple hits for AHS.
Strand earned the victory on the mound for Alamosa, allowing three runs on one hit, while striking out two. John Lujan threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen. Lujan recorded the last 12 outs to pick up the save.

“I am really excited about how our team is playing; we are still improving each week and are really coming together as a team. The team mindset of every player is the key to our success. I believe if we continue to believe in each other we can peak at the right time,” said head coach Jason Romero.
The Mean Moose will conclude its league schedule Saturday as the Montezuma Cortez Panthers come to town for a double-header scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Saturday’s game will also include recognition of AHS baseball alumni prior to the 11 a.m. game. All Alamosa High School baseball alumni are invited to be guests of honor.
