Martha Jane Vialpando


San Luis resident Martha Jane Vialpando, 67, passed away October 25, 2021 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Colorado Springs. Born on December 22, 1953 in Chama, Colorado, the beloved daughter of David Vialpando and Bernadita Romero. Martha was an outgoing, fun loving, charismatic soul who loved being outdoors, going fishing, hunting with her sons and grandson,  picking apples, asparagus and piñon. She has a passion for cooking and baking for her family, her specialty was her famous tortillas.  Martha also had her garden which she loved to tend to.

Survivors include her sons  Justin Johnson (Jeannie Arellano) of Pueblo, CO;  Jack Johnson of San Luis, CO; grandchildren Jack Johnson Jr., Alexis Johnson both of Blanca, CO; Adan Trevizo of Pueblo, CO; sisters Marcella Gomez of Pueblo, CO; Priscilla (Bob) Medina of Suntan Valley, AZ; brothers Silvan (Viola) Vialpando of Aurora, CO; Donald Vialpando, of San Luis, CO; special friends Diane Montano of Chama, CO; Theresa Medina of San Luis, CO; Rosalie Aragon of San Luis, CO; Alice Sanchez of Canyon, CO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents David and Bernadita Vialpando, grandson Pando Jeremy Johnson sisters Mary Ann Sandoval, Mary Medina, Barbara Nieves Vialpando, and special nephew Bob Medina.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:30 AM also at Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Chama Cemetery in Chama, Colorado.
