Martha Oliver Award winner announced

ALAMOSA – Marshall Hollingsworth, Alamosa, has been selected as the inaugural winner of the Martha Oliver Award for Vocal Singing, sponsored by the Valley Community Chorus.

Hollingsworth has been an active member of the Alamosa High School Chorus under the direction of Kim Waller, reaching Colorado All State Choir both as a junior and senior, as well as a lead performer in school musicals. Through the Sandie Wehe’s Studio he has performed in many community settings, including nursing homes and the hospital. He has also participated in the Mt. Blanca Summer Music Conservatory, coordinated by Sarah Off and Randy Macy. Marshall is receiving an award of $1,000.

“Martha Oliver, a member of the Valley Community Chorus for many years, is that solid voice who comes ready to sing, gives new pieces her full effort, supports not only the director but her fellow singers, and enjoys singing choral music,” said David Schneider, director of VCC. “We honor her by naming this award after her to be given to a graduating high school senior affiliated with a SLV School District.

Applications for high school students graduating in 2019 and additional information about the Martha Oliver Award can be obtained by contacting Schneider at 719-580-3785, or [email protected], or visiting the Valley Community Chorus Facebook page and private messaging Schneider.
