Mary Irene Betty Farber, 90

Betty Farber passed away August 16, 2017 at Evergreen Nursing Home, surrounded by family. She was born May 27, 1927 in Grants, New Mexico to Edward and Ruth (Smith) Nelson. She was raised, along with her sister Areloene in Monte Vista where she attended school. Betty was only seven years old when her mother, Ruth, passed away. She had the desire to have a family of her own and shortly after she finished school, she met and married Joe Farber. They had two children, Ron of Grand Junction and Jodie of Alamosa.

Betty helped on the family farm near Hooper for many years. She then worked for two banks and retired after working at Atcheson’s Attic for several years. She enjoyed working with people and always had many stories to tell about her experiences.

Betty belonged to the Rebekahs for many years and made many friends. She loved animals and always had a dog up until the time she went into the nursing home. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and sarcasm, which didn’t fade, even with the dementia.

Betty is survived by her children Ron (Karen) Farber and Jodie Brubacher, 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe, son-in-law, Craig Brubacher and infant twin great granddaughters, Samantha and Rebecca Farber.

The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Nursing Home in the Cottage. They treated her so well with love and respect. We are forever grateful that she was able to spend her last months in such a caring environment.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 2 at 10:00 am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Interment will be at the Monte Vista Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church.

Cremation was chosen and entrusted to Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa.  If you would like to leave online tributes or condolences please visit Betty’s obituary at www.RogersFunerals.com
