Mary Irma Romero Montoya, 91

Mary Irma Romero Montoya, 91, went home to receive her crown from Jesus on date pending.  Born August 25, 1927 in San Luis, CO, she also lived in Alamosa, CO and Albuquerque, NM. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Jose Amos Montoya; son Amos Montoya, Jr; parents Margarito and Antonia Romero; and siblings, Willie, Armando, Julian, Louise Romero and Virginia Romero Gonzales.  Mary Irma is survived by brothers Herbert (Laura) Romero and Paul (Becky) Romero; and sisters Carmen (Tony) Medina, and Betty Romero; three daughters Lucille (John) Gentry, Alice (Joseph “Dennis”) Albert, Yvette (Michael) Lucero; and daughter-in-law Karen Montoya; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Mary Irma was a devout Roman Catholic; a member of the Catholic Daughters at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Alamosa and received all her holy sacraments at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis.  She attended St. John’s Catholic Church in Albuquerque.  She was a loving, devoted, hardworking wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, relative and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She gave us great advice, told us many stories from long-ago, and had the best jokes to keep us laughing.  She loved music, dancing, and hosting her family and friends in her home for her famous red chile, posole, and empanadas de carne.  She also enjoyed reading and traveling to new places. 

Her life celebration will begin with a viewing on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 1-5 pm at the Romero Funeral Home Chapel in San Luis. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis, CO.  Interment will follow at the Sangre De Cristo Catholic Cemetery in San Luis, CO.
