La Jara resident Matthew Cody Marquez, 36, passed away March 4, 2021. Matthew was welcomed into the world on October 8, 1984 in Alamosa, Colorado, the beloved son of Armando Marquez and Bridiga “BeBe” Gurule. Matthews hobbies included anything that allowed him to be in the outdoors and in the mountains. He loved fishing, hiking, camping, gold panning and going horseback riding. He loved the fresh air and was an amazing cook. His family will always remember his delicious lasagna. He was a social butterfly and had numerous friends and will be remembered for his contagious smile and his outgoing personality. He was very proud of the personal relationship he had with God, he was devoted to his faith. Matthew worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for Absmeier Landscaping and Construction. He liked doing farm work, from driving combines to branding cows, Matt was the jack of all trades. His many talents included welding, landscaping, doing carpentry and working on cars and equipment. He was a devoted and loving son, partner, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend who will de dearly missed.
Matthew will live on through his parents Armando Marquez of Capulin, CO; Brigida “BeBe” Gurule of Mosca, CO; partner Nicole Barela of Capulin, CO; son Ramon Marquez of Capulin, CO; daughter Anaya Marquez of Sanford, CO; brothers Casey (Alina) Marquez of Alamosa, CO; Wesley (Crystal) Marquez of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jose Ramon and Eloisa Marquez and maternal grandparents John and Cordy Gurule.
