13 SLV athletes on All-State track and field teams

ALAMOSA – The Colorado High School activities Association released its All-State track and field teams on Thursday. All of the All-State teams are posted on the CHSAANow.com web site.

Class 1A

The Sanford High School girls track team had six All-State selections with four of them on the first team. Leading the way for the Lady Mustangs who was named the Class 1A Track and Field Athletes of the Year. She was a state champion in the 100-meter high hurdles, the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and the triple jump. She was also on the state champion 800-meter sprint medley relay team along with Senior Ashley Dominguez, junior Erica Miller and junior Brooklynn Reynolds, all of whom were also first team selections.

The remaining two Sanford girls All-State selections were honorable mention. Sophomore Kacey Gylling and junior Kate McDaniel got the honors by being on the 4x100-meter relay team which also included Dominguez and Reynolds.

The Sanford boys had four All-State selections. Senior Lincoln Reynolds was a first team selection as he won state championships in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Mustangs named to the second team were junior Tucker Canty, freshman Kaden Cary and sophomore William Malouff, all of whom were on the 4x200-meter relay team along with Reynolds.

Another San Luis Valley athlete on the Class 1A All-State team was Creede sophomore Jasmine Laing who was honorable mention in the high jump.

Class 3A

Two SLV athletes were on the Class 3A All-State team.

Centauri senior Troy Sowards was a first team selection after he won the boys high jump at a personal best height of 6-9.

Alamosa senior Sarah DeLaCerda was honorable mention on the girls team for the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

Class 2A

No San Luis Valley athletes were placed on the Class 2A All-State team.
