PAGOSA SPRINGS — Racing over a rocky and hilly trail course on a 75-degree day did not stop the Alamosa High School Cross Country teams from dominating at their Inner Mountain League Championship.

The girls were led by freshman, Sarah DeLaCerda chasing the bike down. Following closely behind her was sophomores, Autumn McQuitty (2nd), Abby Wubben (6th), and Annahi Molina(10th). Racing side by side were Junior, Maliah Tuioti-Mariner who came in 17th and Sophomore, Whitney Thong who finished 18th. Senior Sariah Lopez crossed the line in 20th further helping her team to victory.

On the boys’ side, Josh Medina took the race out with blazing speed only to be followed by Pagosa Springs and Bayfield racers. He didn’t let that stop him from dropping the hammer and pulling off the win for his team. Coming in 4th, 9th and 10th respectively were Sophomores, Isaac Higareda, Santiago Trujillo and Izaiah Casanova. Rounding out the Mean Moose boys’ finishers was freshman, Mario Villalba placing 16th. Overall, these teams showed that they are ready for the big schools.

Both Coaches Jennifer McQuitty and Peter DeLaCerda are excited to see what they can do up against Gunnison for the boys and Aspen and Basalt for the girls at regionals. The cross-country regionals will be held on October 9th at Hillcrest Golf Course in Durango.
