ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School boys basketball team got off to a slow start when it hosted Ellicott in the Alamosa Basketball Challenge Friday at the Mean Moose’s gym.

The Thunderhawks had a slim lead after the first quarter, however, the final three quarters were all Mean Moose as they went on to a 63-43 win.

Parris Erickson and Anthony Parks both drained 3-point baskets to give Ellicott the early 6-0 advantage. But the Mean Moose scored the next seven points with Jace Quintana scoring a 3-pointer, Brant Jackson a layup, and Kade Jones and Luke Christensen both splitting at the line for a 7-6 edge.

Caesar Lemus put Ellicott back into the lead, and Parks buried another trey for an 11-7 Thunderhawks lead at the end of the first quarter.

Christensen opened the second quarter with a three and he added a free throw to tie the score at 11-11. Esteban Amaya then made a trey to put Ellicott back in front at 14-11.

It was all Mean Moose after that as they ran off 24 unanswered points. Jackson made two free throws, and Kasey Jones scored a layup to put Alamosa in front for good at 15-14. Kade Jones scored nine points in the run, and Jackson scored eight.

Parks drove for a layup to end the first half scoring, but Alamosa led 35-16 at the intermission.

Quintana and Parks traded threes to begin the third quarter. Jackson scored four more points, and Kade Jones, R.J. Meis and Christensen each scored two as Alamosa increased its lead to 48-26 at the end of the period.

Jackson scored another layup and Parker Gilmore swished a three to give the Mean Moose their largest lead of the game at 53-29.

Jackson led the Mean Moose in scoring with 20 points. Christensen scored 14 and Kade Jones scored 12.

Parks led all scorers with 26 points.
