Michael A Sisneros

Dec. 31, 1957—Sept. 17, 2023

Michael passed away at home shortly following a cancer diagnosis that was unexpected. He was surrounded by his wife, children, siblings, and granddaughter. His last days were filled with love, music, storytelling, and laughter.

Michael’s wife, Teresa, and his children find comfort in their family’s strength during this time.

His parents Jose and Sabina preceded him in death along with his family Christopher Sisneros, and Dale Elbertson.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa, and children Michael Paul (Anessa) and granddaughters Sabina and Alicia, Cristina (Tommy), and Andrea (Daryl). He is also survived by his siblings Ramona Sisneros (Dale), Mabelies Sisneros (Nikki) and family, Johnny Sisneros (JoBeth) and family.

Michael was born in Del Norte, Colo. He loved to share stories of growing up in the San Luis Valley, and the various jobs he did including helping in the fields, delivering the newspaper, working at the steel mill, and working at the Loaf n’ Jug. After high school graduation, he moved to Greeley, Colo., with his son Michael Paul and his mom, Michelle, to attend college. Following graduation, he returned to the Valley to work in Alamosa at the housing authority. He eventually met his wife Teresa and they moved to Albuquerque, N.M., to attend UNM for graduate school.

In Albuquerque, they welcomed their daughters Cristina and Andrea and set roots. He worked for the All Indian Housing Authority, and eventually transitioned to working for the State of New Mexico. He retired in 2020 with hopes to spend more time at “church” a.k.a. fly fishing. His joys in life included spending time with family, listening to New Mexican music, tying flies and fly fishing.

The family will hold a rosary on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at 7 p.m. at Saint Jerome's Parish in Center, Colo. His funeral mass will be held on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Saint Jerome's Parish in Center, Colo., followed by burial at the cemetery in Del Norte, Colo.
