Milagros features Nancy Harris in September

ALAMOSA — Nancy Harris’s colorful, complex and playful collages will be on view in Milagros Coffee House throughout the month of September. Milagros is located on the corner of Main Street and State Avenue in Alamosa.

Meet the artist on September 7th and 8th, when she will be demonstrating the collage process at Milagros, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day, as a participant in the Alamosa Downtown Artwalk. A portion of all proceeds from the sale of works on display will go toward La Puente’s mission.

Nancy is a mixed media artist who uses paper, paint and found objects to create her original abstract collages. Harris typically starts with a blank canvas or sheet of watercolor paper, and then builds up layers of material, such as stained tea bags, acrylic paint and paper, using a gel medium for adhesive. The resulting collages are vibrant and intricate.

What Nancy loves about the collage process is the opportunity to work and experiment with both traditional and non-traditional media. She enjoys the challenge of solving the puzzle that each new piece presents and working out the right arrangement of materials, colors, textures and composition.

Nancy has a Masters in Art History from UC Santa Barbara and has taken many art classes, particularly in mixed media collage. She has taught workshops in collage and intends to offer more workshops in the San Luis Valley.
