Miss Merry Christmases announced for 2017

ALAMOSA– Alamosa high school senior Vanessa Thong is this year’s Miss Merry Christmas and will be joined by Alexia Montoya, 8, as Little Miss Merry Christmas. Both girls will be featured in a local holiday edition in the Valley Courier next Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Vanessa was chosen for this year’s Miss Merry title by virtue of being crowned the homecoming queen at AHS this past September. Alexia, a third grader at Alamosa Elementary and the daughter of Ashley Gonzales and Darren Montoya, was chosen in a drawing among entries received for the Little Miss Merry crown.

The daughter of Ivan and Judy Thong of Alamosa, Vanessa has four siblings; Carmen, Emily and Derek. She has participated in many clubs and activities at AHS including basketball, National Honor Society, Key Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions Club and Future Business Leaders of America.

She also has been in Mathematics Engineering Science and Achievements Club, Student Council, Book Club, Student Leadership Program, Gear Up, Image Summit, National Hispanic Institute, Area Health Education Center Gild Program and Trio Upward Bound.

Vanessa plans on pursuing a post-secondary education at the University of Colorado-Boulder or Adams State University majoring in psychology with dreams of becoming a school counselor.
