Missing baby found safe

BLANCA — The report of a mother taking her 1-day old baby from the San Luis Valley Hospital resulted in local law enforcement agencies being notified to be on the lookout for the woman and baby.

According to reports, several welfare checks were requested for the mother, Cynthia Sandoval, because she was known to use drugs. Eventually, the Department of Social Services advised Sandoval to take the infant, who was born overnight, to the hospital.

However, the police issued an Endangered Missing Advisory Monday afternoon for Cynthia who allegedly fled with the infant, Leah, and was last seen in a late-model, gold Chrysler Imperial.

On Tuesday morning the Blanca Police Department announced that the baby had been returned to the “hospital by a man. The baby’s mother has not been located at this time,” according to a local TV station.
