Missing person found dead

ALAMOSA—The Alamosa Police Department has been actively working leads regarding a missing person report which was reported on June 29, 2020.

On July 3, 2020 at approximately 7 p.m., after multiple search warrants, interviews, and an extensive investigation, Alamosa Police Department (APD) located a decedent within the property at 220 San Juan Avenue.  The Alamosa County Coroner's Office arrived on scene to complete their investigation and they will identify the decedent after notification of the family.  An autopsy will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death.  APD is now investigating this case as a homicide.

Detectives have put in countless hours over the past week investigating this case.  Their diligence and persistence has led to the arrest of Eric Gibbs, a 34-year-old Alamosa resident who is currently being held at the Alamosa County jail for 1st Degree Murder.  

Multiple agencies were involved in this investigation and include the Monte Vista Police Department, Rio Grande County Sheriff's Office, Alamosa County Sheriff's Office, Conejos County Sheriff's Office, Pueblo Bomb Squad, Chaffee County SWAT team, Alamosa Fire Department, Alamosa Ambulance Service, and the 12th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

This is an isolated incident and there is currently no threat to the community, however, if anyone has any information regarding this incident please contact APD at (719) 589-2548.  No further details regarding this investigation will be provided at this time as this is still an active ongoing investigation. 

The Alamosa Police Department understands there may have been some frustration over some initial information which was released; however, we thank the public for their understanding as we worked through this investigation.  As well, we greatly appreciate the cooperation from those who were directly impacted by the evacuations on July 2.  This was done strictly in the interest of public safety.  While we understand the decedent has not been officially identified, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim.
