Mize to be added to law enforcement memorial

GOLDEN — A longtime officer with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will be among those added to the Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial in a ceremony here Friday, May 5.

David E. Mize, who was stationed in Alamosa, is one of four officers who died in the line-of-duty in 2021-22. In addition to those four, the names of three historical Colorado line-of-duty deaths will be added to the state’s memorial.

With the addition of these seven names, there are now 349 officers’ names engraved on the Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial.

Mize, 50, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, following a brief illness.

According to his obituary, he joined the US Border Patrol in 2002. In the fall of 2006, he became an Immigration a n d C u s t o m s Enforcement (ICE) Agent. He graduated from the Federal Law Enforcement Center in March of 2007 and began his career in Denver.

In the fall of 2007, he moved to Alamosa. From his home station in Alamosa, he accepted many special assignments that took him to duties in Wyoming, Vermont, Louisiana, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.

Mize enjoyed his community and believed in giving back. He was active by serving on the Alamosa Recreation Board, he umpired ball games and helped to coach an adult woman’s softball team.

He was an active supporter of Tu Casa and received recognition from that organization for his support. He also served on and was chairman of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club and attended several National Conventions representing the Boys and Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley.
