Monte Vista Community Emergency Fund launches website

MONTE VISTA — The Monte Vista Community Emergency Fund (MVCEF) recently launched a new website. The MVCEF is a non-profit organization founded by Angela Jaramillo.

Jaramillo shared that a few years ago the idea came to her when she had concerns throughout the community for families who were struggling with their utilities and needed aid.

Jaramillo said that it had come to her attention that an elderly disabled man had his water shut off and the family was struggling to make ends meet. She was present in the same line at the city office and offered $200 out of her budget to help the man.

From there Jaramillo spoke with her local church where she ministers at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and put down plans and ideas throughout the years. Since then, the plan has materialized into a voluntary citizen-to-citizen financial support group.

“Our goal plan is from 2021 to 2022 and further on in the future to assist families in their emergency times of need,” Jaramillo said. “We are hoping that many in the community can join helping hands together to build a firm, strong, arm and rebuild our community. Many families are in need and all are worthy of succeeding. Our purposes and goals of MVCE funding is to bring our community to a flourishing, succeeding environment as Monte Vista is a beautiful community.”

The group’s purpose according to their website is, “to use all contributions and donations for those families in emergency need. Assisting in rental, utilities, groceries, etc. Those who met the criteria will be entitled to a donation depending on available funds and the need of the family; and will be distributed as timely as possible.”

For those in need who would like to apply for the funding they can fill out an application on the group’s website. Board members will review the applications and decide whether one would be approved for the funding at that time. Board members for the MVCEF are Founder and Director Jaramillo, Rocio Urbina, and Gary Johnson.

“We have not been able to assist anyone at this time being that the project has just been put together and the budget is not yet to expectations. However, in February, we plan to start assisting,” shared Jaramillo.
