Monte Vista resident graduates from MCPHS University

MONTE VISTA — Carly Santi Lozoya of Monte Vista graduated with a Masters of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene at MCPHS University’s 150th commencement ceremony, held on May 5 at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Santi Lozoya was awarded the Dean’s Award for Professionalism and Leadership. She was inducted into the National Dental Hygiene Honors Society, Sigma Phi Alpha. Sigma Phi Alpha inductees are elected on the basis of scholarship, service, leadership, and potential for professional growth. Membership is limited to 10 percent of each graduating class by the program. Santi Lozoya also received an Alpha Eta Honor Society Award. Alpha Eta is a national honor society for allied health professions. Graduate students are required to have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.8 or higher. It is not academic success alone that grants entry into Alpha Eta, however; inductees must also have shown the capacity for leadership and achievement in their respective fields. Prospective students are nominated by their departments, voted on by the Alpha Eta faculty membership and, finally, approved by the dean.

While taking online courses, Santi Lozoya completed a graduate thesis titled “The Influence of the Mobile Application, ToothSense, on the Oral Health Practices and Behaviors of the Parents of Preschool Children.”

Santi Lozoya plans to continue to work for Dr. Joseph Lucero, DDS, a new prosthodontist in Monte Vista.

Carly Santi Lozoya, RDH, MS is a 1994 graduate of Monte Vista High School. She is the daughter Dr. Richard and Cheryl Santi, long-time residents of Monte Vista.
