Monte Vista splits with Pagosa

PAGOSA SPRINGS– In a pair of one-run decisions on Saturday, Monte Vista split with Pagosa Springs in a battle of the Pirates of the IML, winning the first tilt 6-5 before losing the second on a final play, 5-4.

Pagosa Springs took an early lead in the first inning of the first game. P Bailey’s sac fly scored one run for Pagosa Springs.

Monte Vista took the lead for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third there was an error, scoring two runs and Pedro Ortiz singled off of K Laverty, driving in two runs.

Tucker Jones earned the win for Monte Vista. He tossed three innings, allowing three runs, four hits, striking out three, and walking zero. Brycen Hotz recorded the last 12 outs to earn the save for Monte Vista. Laverty took the loss for Pagosa Springs. He went two innings, allowing four runs, two hits, and striking out two.

Hunter Hindes, Ortiz, Zach Castro, Enrique Ortiz, and Andrew Martinez all had one hit to lead Monte Vista.

Pagosa Springs had five hits in the game. Laverty and B Raymond each collected multiple hits for Pagosa Springs.

A walk-off left Monte Vista on the wrong end of a 5-4 loss to Pagosa Springs in the nightcap. The game was tied at four with Pagosa Springs batting in the bottom of the seventh when B Raymond singled off of Eloy Martinez, driving in one run.

Monte Vista captured the lead in the first inning. Marcus Chavez drove in one when he singled in the first inning.

After Monte Vista scored two runs in the top of the second, Pagosa Springs answered with two of their own. Monte Vista scored when there was an error, scoring one run. Pagosa Springs then answered when I Griego tripled off of Eloy Martinez, driving in one run and there was an error, scoring one run.

S Miller earned the win for Pagosa Springs. He went seven innings, surrendering four runs, seven hits, and striking out four. Martinez took the loss for Monte Vista. He pitched six and a third innings, surrendering five runs, nine hits, and striking out four.

Enrique Ortiz went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Monte Vista in hits.
