Moose baseball tops Pagosa, drops two at Bayfield

PAGOSA SPRINGS– After dropping a pair of games Saturday in Bayfield, the Alamosa Mean Moose baseball team bounced back Tuesday with a 10-run win over Pagosa Springs.

Alamosa will host Centauri Thursday 6/9 at 3:00 to close out the regular season with regionals beginning Monday 6/14, location and opponent TBD.

A big third inning propelled the Moose to Tuesday’s 13-3 win over the Pirates, putting up seen runs in the frame after scoring five in the second. Alamosa batters contributing in the big inning include Case Zimmerman, Kade Jones and Tyler Duarte, all driving in runs.

Hayden Shawcroft, Zimmerman and Evan Sowards were the big sticks in the second inning, Zimmerman with an RBI double and Sowards with a two-run triple. Sowards had three hits in four at bats to lead the Moose.

Zimmerman picked up the win on the hill allowing one run on five hits, striking out seven and walking one in four innings. Gabe West threw one inning in relief out of the bull pen.

Host Bayfield opened Saturday’s double-header with a 12-2 victory and pulled away late in the second tilt to win 14-11. Alamosa’s only three hits in the first game came from Michael Madril, Donovan Ramirez and Sowards.

Duarte took the loss on the mound giving up three earned runs on six hits and striking out four in two innings of work. The Wolverines didn’t commit a single error in the field.

Ramirez was the star at the plate in the nightcap, collecting five hits in defeat as the Moose recorded a total of 20 hits. Dustin Curto, Jones, Zimmerman, Kasey Jones, Shawcroft and Sowards also had multiple hits for AHS.

Kade Jones got the start on the hill giving up six runs on nine hits while striking out one in four and two-thirds innings. Sowards and Shawcroft went in for relief.

Bayfield had 15 hits in the game.

The game was tied at nine with Bayfield batting in the bottom of the sixth, as the Wolverines put up five more runs to secure the win.
