ALAMOSA — With the post season no longer far and away on the horizon, Alamosa (15-4-0) tuned-up with two routs over Trinidad’s Miners (1-15-0). Under a partly cloudy sky Alamosa faced little resistance on their way to two ‘mercy rule’ wins, the first by a score of 12-2 and the second 14-4.

Game one started innocently enough with a tied score of one run apiece.  In the third inning Alamosa got their bats going gouging the Miners with six runs, largely putting the game out of reach.  The Maroons would follow up on that performance with 5 runs over the next two chapters to secure the win in five innings.

Caden Alonzo flexed some muscle from the plate with 4 RBI. Behind him Adam Crowder and Tyler Zimmerman each tied with 2 RBI apiece. Crowder hit .667 in the game while Zimmerman got a piece of everything Trinidad’s pitcher offered, going seven for seven on the day. From the mound John Lujan and Chance Strand shared the burden. Lujan sat down 9 batters while Strand finished off a tenth over the course of those five innings.

In game two it was more of the same.  Alamosa jumped all over the Miners right away with nine runs over the course of the first three innings to create a 9-1 lead. In preparation of ending things early, another five runs in the fourth created a one sided 14-1 score. The Miners did their best to extend the game with a three run double, but it fell short as Alamosa dug in to end the inning taking their 14th win in a row.

In a sea of productive hitting, John Lujan led the Moose, scoring three runners in the second game. Behind Lujan four of his teammates tied with two RBI each. The pitching duties in the second game were handled by seniors Zimmerman and Strand. Zimmerman struck out five to Strand's four.

A very productive season for Alamosa saw them earn the IML for the first time since 1990 and create a great opportunity for them to earn a ticket to the State Championship Tournament. Next week during the regional round the Moose will be one of eight teams to be hosting a tournament. Catch Alamosa on Saturday May 12 for the beginning of 3A regional tournament play.
