Moose drops heartbreaker to La Junta

Late runs haunt Alamosa

LA JUNTA— The AHS Baseball squad gave up another late lead Tuesday in La Junta, losing to the #7 ranked La Junta Tigers 8-6.

Senior Caden Alonzo got the start for Alamosa, lasting four innings, giving up four runs on nine hits while striking out five. Up 6-2 in In the top of the fifth, junior Austin Barrows came in relief with the bases loaded.

La Junta scored two runs narrowing the game to 6-4 going to the top of the sixth. The Tigers’ bats produced four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-6 lead going into the seventh. The Maroons collected 10 hits while La Junta had 15 in the high-scoring affair. Ben Wuckert hit his second homerun of the season on the first pitch of his at bat, scoring two runs. Ty Addington picked up the win for La Junta. Austin Barrows took the loss, allowing six hits and four runs over two innings, while striking out three. AHS racked up 10 hits on the day. Wuckert and Gage Calder both managed multiple hits.

The Mean Moose will now travel to Brush on Friday to take on Sterling, Bayfield and Brush in a weekend non-league tournament.
