Moose open season with rout of Centauri

ALAMOSA – Clicking on all cylinders Wednesday, the Alamosa Mean Moose won big over Centauri 15-4 in their baseball season opener.

The Moose fired up the offense in the first inning, when Kasey Jones singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Alamosa put up four runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught by the host Moose was led by Case Zimmerman, Dustin Curto, and Evan Sowards, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Tyler Duarte was on the pitcher’s mound for Alamosa, surrendering four runs on three hits over three and a third innings, striking out five. Donivan Ramirez entered from the bullpen going one and two-thirds innings giving up two hits and striking out two.

Byron Shawcroft toed the rubber for Centauri. He lasted two innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out two.

McCay Russell and Connor King entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one inning respectively.

Alamosa had 19 hits in the game. Jones, Hayden Shawcroft, Evan Sowards, Donovan Ramirez, Tyler Duarte, Kade Jones and Zimmerman each racked up multiple hits for Alamosa Mean Moose. Sowards, Shawcroft, and Jones each managed three hits to lead the Moose.

Centauri racked up five hits in the game with Erik Mestas and Jaren Crowther each having multiple hits for the Falcons.

Alamosa travels to Montrose this weekend to play two against 4A number seventh ranked Montrose and Battle Mountain.
