Mother’s body dismembered

PUEBLO– According to a report Wednesday from the Pueblo Chieftain online, the body of Maria “Mary” Cuevas-Garcia was dismembered — and her son, who is accused in her death, is not cooperating, according to Pueblo Police Capt. Eric Bravo.

Anthony Cuevas, 36, of Monte Vista, is accused of putting his mother’s body in a suitcase and throwing it in a dumpster at a South Side car wash.

According to the Chieftain report, Bravo said the 58-year-old woman’s head, along with both hands and feet, were severed from the body.

“We didn’t want to put that information out initially, because that is something only the killer would know and we wanted to have the opportunity to interrogate the suspect before that information was released,” Bravo told the Chieftain.

Bravo said police have been following up on leads, though none have panned out. Rumors on social media have turned out to be just that.

“We are hoping that putting this information out that somebody may have seen something or come across something that was suspicious,” Bravo said. “We have been out searching with search teams Tuesday based on some information that we received out west of town. We did not come up with anything.”

Bravo said police are focusing on finding the remains.

“He (Anthony Cuevas) has not been cooperative as far as helping us locate what we are searching for. He refuses to help us recover the rest of her body,” Bravo said.

Bravo said if anyone has information to call 320-6049, Sgt. Raymond Purvis at 320-6047 or Detective Ryan Torres at 320-6037.
