Motorcyclist injured in Sunday crash

CONEJOS —The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a truck versus motorcycle crash on Colorado 15 east of milepost 25 between Capulin and La Jara resulting in serious injury to the motorcycle driver.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 21, a white 1965 GMC feed truck driven by Avelino Muniz, 79, from La Jara was traveling northbound from a private drive making a right turn from the private drive onto Colorado 15. 

A black Yamaha 2012 V-Star motorcycle driven by Ivan Quintana, 49, from Capulin was traveling eastbound on Colorado 15. The Muniz vehicle upon entering Colorado 15, traveled into the westbound lane of Colorado 15 before attempting to make another immediate right turn crossing over the eastbound lane toward a residential driveway when the Quintana motorcycle collided with the right front quarter panel of Muniz vehicle.

Following impact, the Muniz vehicle traveled 122 feet into the residential driveway south of Colorado 15 coming to rest facing south.

The Quintana Motorcycle, following impact, traveled nearly 10 feet off the south side of Colorado 15 into a residential driveway rolling 1/4 time onto its right side coming to rest in the residential driveway facing north. 

The Quintana party was transported by ambulance to the Conejos County Hospital where he was treated for multiple serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
