Mott, Martinez sentenced on Monday

ALAMOSA — Billy Mott and Alfred Martinez were both sentenced in the 12th Judicial District Court on Monday.

Mott was charged with a Class 6 felony of vehicular eluding. The arguments provided by the state noted that Mott led officers in a high-speed chase on his motorcycle because he did not want to be caught without a valid license. The chase ended when Mott lost control and eventually crashed. District Judge Michael Gonzales noted that the entire incident was the result of a “poor decision” by Mott.

Since Mott has a history of two prior felonies, the state recommended a sentence of one year in Community Corrections, which Judge Gonzales followed. Mott was given credit for 28 days that he spent in custody.

Alfred Martinez faced charges of theft and possession of a financial transaction device. Martinez was employed at Big John’s Furniture Warehouse when he and his son took several checks that had been left unattended. Martinez then took the checks and cashed them at San Luis Valley Federal Bank.

Judge Gonzales sentenced Martinez to supervised probation for two years and 100 hours of community service. Martinez will also likely be participating in cognitive reconstruction therapy along with writing a letter of apology to his former employers. Restitution to the bank will also be required.

Martinez brought his granddaughter into the courtroom with him, which was very displeasing to Judge Gonzales. The Judge issued a stern warning to Martinez about being the right kind of role model. Martinez will be back in court for review on April 11th.
