Music conservatory faculty to perform concert

ALAMOSA — Faculty of the Mt. Blanca Summer Music Conservatory will perform a concert on Wednesday evening, June 28th, at 7 p.m. in the Leon Memorial on the Adams State University campus. The public is welcome to attend.  

On the program will be pieces by Bartok, Beethoven, Boccherini, Carro, Faure, Piazolla, Rogers, Weber, and original compositions by faculty members.  

Faculty members performing are:

Dr. Sarah Off, violinist, co-founder and artistic director of the MBSMC, has performed across the U.S. and in Europe as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. A founding member of Tandem Duo, she and Dr. Marilyn Clark Silva strive to bring new and lesser-known works to larger audiences. She is an avid educator both privately and as a clinician and is currently orchestra director and strings professor at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix. Sarah is an advocate for promoting the arts in rural areas and completed her doctoral dissertation on this topic.

Dr. Marilyn Clark Silva, percussionist, is a Marimba One Education Artist and an Arizona Teaching Artist.  She maintains an active career as a performer and educator.  She is a founding member of Tandem Duo and Sugar and Carbs and has performed with Island Steel, Salt River Brass Band, Vocal Essence and many other diverse ensembles. She teaches music history, theory and percussion ensemble at Veritas Prep Academy and is an active clinician as well.  

Dr. Tracy Doyle, flautist and professor of music at Adams State University, teaches courses in applied flute, chamber music and music education. She performs with the San Juan Symphony, is an active soloist and chamber musician, and was the 2016 National Flute Association Convention Performers Competition winner. She is an advocate for new music and frequently commissions and performs new works as a member of the Doyle-Kane flute and percussion duo.

Mathieu D’Ordine, cellist, serves as the principal conductor of the Boulder Opera Company. He is a devoted interpreter of music from Domenico Gabrieli to Alfred Schnittke and has commissioned and premiered cello works from many brilliant rising composers. Mathieu is also a master orchestrator and has orchestrated and arranged works for performance throughout Colorado.

Sami Froncek, pianist, has performed as a solo and collaborative pianist, performing a mixture of works both new and obscure. She received a Fellowship from the Belgian American Educational Foundation and was a finalist for the Fulbright Research Grant. She has also served as music director and pianist for the First United Methodist Church of West, Texas. As an educator she has served on the faculty of Dallas/Music and the Sugarland School of Music in Houston. Sami is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at the University of Oklahoma.  

Corliss Taylor Dunn starred on Broadway in Raisin and Bubbling Brown Sugar and toured Europe in Porgy and Bess. Corliss co-wrote an original musical, Opening Night, which was nominated for three Off-Broadway awards. She performed in concerts in Canada, Mexico, and the United States with Doc Severinsen.  

Randy D. Macy, pianist, co-founder and administrative director of MBSMC, has taught music classes for the Colorado Community College System for over 25 years, served as a professional church musician in various Denver/metro venues for over 20 years, and has been a collaborative pianist at Adams State University for the past four years. He concertizes regularly with Broadway Star Corliss Taylor-Dunn, Sarah Off, and other Denver and San Luis Valley-based musicians.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors/students. All proceeds go toward operating costs of the Mt. Blanca Summer Music Conservatory.
