MV Kiwanis Club awards scholarships

MONTE VISTA — The Monte Vista Kiwanis Club is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 Key Club Scholarships.

D’Anna Widger and Patricia Koester were each awarded $1,000 scholarships. Steven Valdez was announced as the recipient of the Tony Perea Memorial Key Club Scholarship for $1,500. Tony Perea was a long time faculty sponsor of Key Club and the scholarship was established in his honor.

Key Club is the Kiwanis sponsored service club for high school students. The scholarships are available to the colleges/vocational schools of the students’ choice. These recipients were chosen for their academic achievement, community service, membership, and active participation in Key Club activities.

Janet Noland, scholarship chairwoman, awarded the students with their scholarships at the Senior Awards Night on May 25. The scholarships are primarily funded by the Crane Quilt Raffle held during the Crane Festival.
