ALAMOSA — Richard "Rick" Needham has issued this statement regarding his candidacy for Alamosa County Commissioner.

“Richard "Rick" Needham respectfully declares his candidacy for the Alamosa Board of County Commissioners, representing District 1, under the Democratic ticket. With nearly five decades of residency in Alamosa and a diverse professional background. Needham brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the political landscape.

“Having graduated from Columbine High School in Littleton, Needham ventured to the San Luis Valley to pursue higher education at Adams State College. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Psychology, followed by an MBA in Public Administration from Adams State University.

“Throughout his career, Needham has been deeply rooted in public service, primarily through law enforcement, notably serving as Detective Sergeant at the Alamosa PD and later as Chief of Police in Monte Vista. His tenure in Monte Vista saw the successful initiation of a school resource officer program in collaboration with the school district and the Rio Grande Sheriff’s Office, alongside the implementation of a scholarship program to support local students in their pursuit of higher education.

“A proven leader in fiscal responsibility and efficient project management, Needham has a track record of delivering results under budget and ahead of schedule. Notably, his efforts facilitated the relocation of the police department in Monte Vista, demonstrating his commitment to enhancing public services while being mindful of taxpayer dollars.

Needham's vision for the county encompasses integrity, inclusivity, and sustainable growth. His advocacy for the less fortunate, demonstrated through his involvement with organizations like La Puente and Tu Casa, underscores his dedication to community welfare. As Commissioner, Needham pledges to foster collaboration between the community, NGOs, elected officials, and county staff to develop a strategic plan that prioritizes efficiency and responsiveness to local needs.
