Nelva Joan Wade, 83

Alamosa —Nelva Joan Wade, 83, passed away at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa, Colorado on December 5, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones.  Nelva, who preferred to go by Joan, was born in Durango, Colorado on December 3, 1934 to Clement and Oma Biggs.  She was married to Olin Glenn Wade, better known as Olie, and had four wonderful children together.

Joan was an intelligent woman, after completing high school she went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in teaching from Adams State College.

She was also talented and giving in many other aspects of her life.  She enjoyed working with the kids of the 4-H Club teaching them how to cook and bake. Joan also made a large impact in the community by serving on the school board for twelve years. 

She gave back to the community even more so by being an Election Judge and was proud to serve there for many years as well.  One of her favorite things to do, especially with her late husband Olie, was going to auctions and yard sales.  She always wanted to be one of the first ones there so she could find the best antiques.

Joan is survived by her loving children; Hilda (Larry) Hunter of Alamosa, Colorado.  Cindy Smith of La Jara, Colorado, Tanya (Kirk) McBride of Juneau, Alaska, and Zina (Harvey) Horton of Alamosa, Colorado.  Her sister, Jolene Newbold of Durango, Colorado, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Brett (Nikki) Hunter and daughter Aspen Hunter of Alamosa; Heath Hunter of Commerce City; JD McBride of Seattle and son Bradley; Justin (Crystal) McBride, Texas; Cody (Jennifer) Smith of La Jara; Nathan Smith of La Jara and seven step grandchildren..  As well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Olie Glenn Wade.  Her parents Clement and Oma Biggs.  Her son in law, Bryon Smith.  As well as two step grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen and entrusted to Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa located at 205 State Ave.  Inurnment will follow services at the Alamosa Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made in Joan’s name to the charity of your choosing.
