New IGA seeks to clearer define roles in child abuse cases

ALAMOSA — The first hearing for Ordinance No. 8-2021 took place during Wednesday’s regular city council meeting. Members of City Council moved the measurement along with no dissent.

8-2021 is an ordinance approving an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Alamosa County Department of Human Services and with the Colorado State Patrol, Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office and Adams State University Police Department for interdisciplinary action in response to child abuse cases.

The current text of the IGA gives detailed responsibilities for different circumstances covering important issues like Joint Reviews and Investigations between organizations, Protective Custody and 

According to the IGA description,

“Child abuse and neglect are community problems requiring a cooperative response by law enforcement and child protection. An agreement amongst Alamosa County Department of Human Services (DHS) and the law enforcement entities in Alamosa will enhance the inter-disciplinary approach and better protect the children of Alamosa County by defining the lines of communication between the agencies that will result in cooperative, joint decision making.”
