New staff join La Jara Elementary

LA JARA — La Jara Elementary welcomes and appreciates the efforts of new staff this school year:

Candace Shaw:  Candace is a fifth grade teacher at La Jara Elementary, and doubles duty as she is the Centauri Falcons Varsity Volleyball Coach. The former Bayfield High School academic and athletic standout comes to the elementary with three years experience, having taught all subject areas in fifth grade previously at Alamosa. A graduate of Adams State University, Candace has instantaneous rapport with students, is an effective and knowledgeable teacher, and is a welcome addition to an already outstanding staff.

Nikki Pepper:  Nikki is a fourth grade teacher at La Jara Elementary who brings eight years of teaching experience to the district. She has taught second and third grade, high school weight lifting and has served as the GT Coordinator at Sargent. This former Sangre de Cristo and Western State graduate is passionate about teaching, organized, and models a stellar work ethic emulated by all her students. 

Benita Vialpondo:  Benita now serves as a Read Act Para at La Jara Elementary.  She has experience with providing private educational tutoring to families, all while attending Trinidad State Junior College. She will soon complete a degree in Early Childhood Education. This Sangre de Cristo graduate demonstrates skill in assisting students at the individual level, and it shows. 

Kelly Wubben:  Kelly is a PE teacher at La Jara Elementary where she brings high school math and science experience having taught previously in Antonito and Alamosa. This Columbine High graduate attended Arizona State University and Colorado State University and brings energy, dedication and commitment to the job.
