New truck in service

Alamosa Mayor Ty Coleman gives thumbs up for the newest fire truck, Engine 1, put into service in Alamosa. It is replacing a 1996 truck. The Alamosa Fire Department held a dedication of the new truck Thursday evening, with a blessing of the truck given by Wayne Wittner, retired Fire Department Chaplain from Monte Vista and the firefighters hosing down the new truck. Mayor Coleman got to ride in the truck with firefighter Zach Cerny, who was one of the committee members designing the truck. Other committee members were Paul Duarte, Devin Haynie, Eric Treinen and Ben Herrera. The $446,000 truck was custom built by Pierce Manufacturing in Bradenton, Florida to city specifications and can pump 1,500 gals of water per minute and 1,200 gals per minute of foam and water, holds 1,000 gals of water, has a roll cage constructed into the cab and can seat six firefighters. It is expected to last 25-30 years. The truck can assist the county with fires through the current memorandum of understanding.
