No identification yet on human remains

SAN LUIS — The Costilla County Sheriff is still waiting for identification of human remains found by some young hunters Saturday, Sept. 9.

The remains were there from three to six months, according to reports from Huerfano County and were found near the Costilla County line, so and the find was determined to be a Costilla County case.

Costilla Sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Quintana assisted the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office in recovering the unidentified remains.

Two men from Costilla County are still on the missing list, but there is no official connection with either one.

Sgt. Quintana is in charge of the investigation, with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the El Paso County Coroner, who says identification may take a few months, according to Undersheriff Ricky Rodriguez.

Investigation is continuing.

Still listed as missing are 33-year-old William “Scott” Hurtado out of the Blanca, Colorado area, who was last seen Jan. 26, and 28-year-old Benjamin Charles Hamby, who has been missing since March 30.
