Norma Stamps

Norma Stamps, 97, an Alamosa resident passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 29, 2018 surrounded by her children.  Born December 6th, 1920 in Manassa Colorado to Nephi Christensen and Anna Gilbert Christensen, she was often referred to as the fourth son as so often she could be found ranching and farming with her father since her older brothers had already left home.  Norma enjoyed family and church activities, along with camping and fishing. In the Spring of 1938, Norma was introduced to Carl Stamps of La Jara on a blind date. On July 10, they eloped to Taos New Mexico and made their first home on a farm near La Jara shortly after which they began their family.  Norma always worked to have a happy home.  In early 1947, Norma and Carl moved the family to a farm north of Alamosa, by late 1955, their 13th and last child was born.  She went to work as a receptionist at the Alamosa Community Hospital, later working in the credit department of Montgomery Wards. She eventually went back to the Alamosa Community Hospital in the Medical Records Department. In 1972, after raising her children, she went back to college. Norma earned her Accredited Record Technician degree.  After which she became the Department Head of the Medical Record Department and eventually retiring after 23 years of service.  Norma enjoyed time with her family, traveling, gardening, camping and fishing.  In 1995, after the death of her husband, she moved to a home in Waverly next to her daughter, Gaye Schneider.  For the next 23 years, she kept busy with family, traveling, camping and fishing. At age 95, Norma was the one of the first inductees of the Medical Hall of Fame with the SLV Regional Medical Center for years of dedicated service, and was honored as Grand Marshall at the Manassa Pioneer Days in 2016.  She is remembered as gracious and a wonderful example of a mom, grandma and GG, and out fished us all. We will cherish her memory and hope to live up to her example.

She is survived by her children, Ruth (Bill) Miller, Douglas Stamps, Ardith Montano, Tracey (Nell) Stamps, Louetta (Daughter in Law) Stamps, Kenneth (Rose) Stamps, Betty (David) Morrison, Eldon (Patricia) Stamps, Kathy (Larry) Owens, Gaye (Gary) Schneider, Christine (David) Frasier, Christopher (Kathy) Stamps and our adopted sisters, Sharon (Dean) Hallock, Francie Maroski, Linda (Lloyd) Downey and Becky Kreps.  She was blessed with 45 Grandchildren, 86 Great-Grandchildren, and 20 Great Great-Grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Carl Stamps, her infant daughter Carolyn DeAnn, son Raymond Stamps, two sons in law and by several beloved Grand-Children and Great Grand-Children.

A funeral service will be held on Monday October 8, 2018 at the Alamosa Third Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  A visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 pm on Sunday October 7, 2018 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa and prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 am at the church on Monday.  In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Hospice Del Valle or The Colorado Talking Book Library and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
