Percussion Academy open to high schoolers

ALAMOSA – The Adams State University Department of Music invites high school students in grades 9 through 12 to participate in a Percussion Academy. No experience is necessary. Students will be taught a variety of styles including steel pans, African hand drumming, Brazilian Samba, drum set, drum line, concert percussion, Central America and Zimbabwean marimba.

All classes will be taught by Dr. James Doyle, associate professor of music, and students in the Adams State Percussion Studio.

Classes will be from 7:15 p.m. until 8:45 p.m. Tuesday evenings, beginning November 7, in the Music Building. Dates of classes are November 7, 14, 28; December 5, 12; January 23, 30; February 6, 13, 20, 27; March 6, 13, 27; and April 3, 10, 17, 24 and will conclude with a concert on April 25.

The Percussion Academy is possible due to the sponsorship of the Adams State Office of Title V Initiatives and the Center for Teaching, Innovation, and Research.
