Plant sale and open house set for May 12

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Community Greenhouse, a non-profit garden education facility, will host its annual plant sale and open house on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., 1201 Edison Avenue. The greenhouse, a passive-solar structure was built by community members about 35 years ago. With no supplemental heat, plants are grown year-around.

Organically grown basil, a variety of tomatoes, other vegetables, herbs, and houseplants will be for sale. Tours of the greenhouse, transplanting and vermiculture demonstrations and gardening advice will be offered. Tool sharpening (for a donation) will be provided by Michael Price. Free seeds will be available.

Also featured will be stained glass for sale by local artist Mary Susan Eldredge. Displayed against the glass of the greenhouse, the stained glass complements the colors of the plants being sold.
