Plenty of activity at the Alamosa Chamber

ALAMOSA- Preparations for the fall season are well underway at the Alamosa County Chamber of Commerce. August is expected to be a particularly busy month.

August will bring the start of the 2019 Fall Semester at Adams State University.

The Chamber is currently seeking local businesses that would be willing to offer a discount to ASU students during the “Discover Alamosa” event held in conjunction with the Welcome Back Week activities on Saturday, Aug. 17.

According to the Weekly Chamber Newsletter, the discounts/specials can be anything from a sample of a signature menu item, a discount on select dishes, a sale on Alamosa merchandise, or a favorite store item. Businesses and community members are also encouraged to wear green and make students feel welcome.

On Aug. 19, the monthly Networking Luncheon will take place at Cavillo’s Mexican Restaurant. The featured guest speaker will be Heather Brooks, city manager for the City of Alamosa. Brooks will give an update on the Alamosa Streets Trust Fund. The proposed dedicated street sales tax would increase the city’s ability to maintain its’ streets from approximately $500,000 annually to $1.8 million annually.

Several ribbon cuttings are scheduled for this month. The opening of Centric Aviation will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 22. The event will be held at 2490 State Ave. at 5:30 p.m. and include an open house.

Milagros Coffee House will also be celebrating the completion of its’ recent historical remodeling with a Grand Re-Opening Aug. 24 at 9 a.m. that will be followed by an open house and will feature samples of baked goods.

The Chamber and the Southern Colorado Small Business Development Center will also celebrate the opening of their new Business Resource Center located inside the Train Depot on Tuesday, Aug. 20. All ribbon cuttings are free and open to the community.

More information on the above events and other upcoming chamber activities is expected to be forthcoming.
