Possible fatal fire victim identity still unknown

COSTILLA COUNTY — As of Friday afternoon, the identity was still unknown of an individual apparently victim to a fatal fire in Costilla County Wednesday afternoon. Costilla County Undersheriff Ricky Rodriguez said on Friday that an autopsy was planned, and authorities would be waiting on the outcome of that procedure, so it could be some time before the identity and cause of death are known.

Costilla County Coroner Sherri Vigil confirmed that a body was recovered at a home site in rural Costilla County on Wednesday but the body had not yet been identified. Undersheriff Rodriguez said on Friday that was still the case.

Authorities responded to what appeared to be the scene of a fatal fire on Wednesday south of San Luis in a remote area outside of Mesita.
