Prescribed burning to take place in Valley

Conejos Peak Ranger District

LA JARA — Rio Grande National Forest plans to conduct prescribed burning on the Conejos Peak Ranger District approximately 17 miles southwest of Antonito, between FSR 130 and 125. Smoke from the burn may be visible along Hwy 17 between Antonito and Fox Creek. The purpose of this burn is to reduce fuel loadings and to improve wildlife habitat. Pile burning planned, Divide and Conejos Peak Ranger Districts

MONTE VISTA — Rio Grande National Forest plans to burn hazardous fuels piles and logging slash piles to reduce fuel loadings and to improve wildlife habitat. On the Divide Ranger District the piles are located along the Hwy. 149 corridor near Black Mesa.

Smoke from the burn may be visible from the top of Spring Hill Pass to Ox Bow Ranch along Hwy. 149.  On the Conejos Peak Ranger District the piles are located along the Hwy. 17 corridor from Fox Creek to the New Mexico state line. Smoke from the burn may be visible from New Mexico State line to La Manga Pass.
