‘Pride Month’ observed in Valley

VALLEY– SLV Pride is holding multiple activities this month to honor its mission to unite the LGBTQ+ communities throughout the San Luis Valley, and to create and foster experiences that emphasize inclusiveness and mutual respect. The theme this year is “Just Say Gay.”

This Friday, August 5th, there will be an Art Show featuring various SLV artists and Open Mic at Milagros Coffee House in Alamosa! The Art Show begins at 5 pm, and complimentary refreshments are available. Open Mic starts after sunset (approximately 7:30 pm). A sign-up sheet will be available then for those who want to participate in Open Mic. Come meet local artists and enjoy the free entertainment! Tickets and information for other Pride events will be available at this time. Milagros is located at the corner of Main and State in Alamosa.

Wednesday, August 24th, Frontier Drive-In in Center, CO is featuring a Queer-Themed Movie Night. Doors open at 7:30 am. The movie, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, is rated R, and will start at dusk. Tickets are $10 each and will be available at other Pride events and at the door. Frontier Drive-In is located at 11150 Hwy 285, Center, CO. 

Friday, August 26th, at 6:30 pm, Milagros Coffee House in Alamosa will feature a performance of “13 Love Songs,” leading into a Pre-Pride Kickoff Party at Square Peg Brewerks at 8 pm. Square Peg is located at 625 Main St in Alamosa.

The fourth annual SLV PrideFest will kick off on Saturday, August 27th at 10 am with a parade to Cole Park in downtown Alamosa. The event will feature live entertainment, food vendors, information booths and lots of fun! It is free to attend and open to the public. Currently, we still need volunteers to help make 2022 PrideFest a success! Please email us at [email protected] to sign up. 

Sunday, August 28th, Pride Month will wrap up with a Drag Brunch at The Roast from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. Tickets are $20 and will be available at other Pride events. The Roast is located in Alamosa at 420 San Juan Avenue.
