Priscilla Celina Gurley

Monte Vista resident Priscilla Celina Gurley, passed away May 8, 2021, at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 8, 1930, in South Fork, Colo., the daughter of Edumenio Marquez and Nicanora Prien Marquez. Priscilla worked as a secretary and a teacher’s aide for the Monte Vista School District. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed reading, painting, gardening, caring for her flowers, crocheting, embroidery and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was devoted to her faith and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Monte Vista.

Survivors include her daughters Karen (Greg) Gurley-Davis of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; April Marquez (Ron Flaugh), Lisa Gurley both of Monte Vista, Colo.; 17 grandchildren, sisters Juanita LeBlanc of Del Norte, Colo.; Lucy Marquez, Becky (Junior) Duran, Charlene (Sam) Mondragon all of Denver, Colo.; Charlotte Martinez of Commerce City, Colo.; Bernadette (Preston) Anthony of Aurora, Colo.; Frances Marquez of Alamosa, Colo.; Cordy (Daniel) Rubio of Commerce City, Colo.; Brothers Billy (Mary) Marquez of Kent, Wash.; Theodore (Rusty) Marquez of Commerce City, Colo.; Andrew (Patricia) Marquez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Dwayne (Heather) Marquez of Commerce City, Colo.; Jimmy (Isabel) Marquez of Wheat Ridge, Colo.. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents Edumenio and Nicanora, children Rebecca Gurley, Ernest “Jr.” Gurley, sisters Flora Aragon, Carole Francisco, Della Marquez, brothers Rudy Marquez and Lawrence Marquez.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church located at 215 Washington St. in Monte Vista. Interment will follow at the Del Norte Cemetery.
