Public invited to meet gold medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee

ALAMOSA — Called the greatest athlete of her time, former U.S. Olympic track and field star Jackie Joyner-Kersee will be at Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, as part of her visit to Alamosa.

The three-time Olympic gold medalist is headlining the 25th anniversary celebration of Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley. She will attend the club’s evening dinner and auction at the National Guard Armory and talk to the supports of the club about the importance of investing in youth development programs like Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley.

The public is invited to meet the U.S. Olympic star during her 2-3 p.m. visit at the Clubhouse in Alamosa off Highway 285 and 10th Street. 

She will be available for autographs.

Sports Illustrated for Women magazine voted Joyner-Kersee the Greatest Female Athlete of All-Time as a result of her five Olympic medals in track & field. In addition to three gold, she also won a silver and a bronze.

Joyner-Kersee first got involved with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America movement growing up in St. Louis, where she was active in her city’s local club. She now is one of the organization’s top celebrity speakers, inspiring youth and their families across the country to build positive character traits by being active and getting involved with organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley.
