Rattlers prepare for State with Chaulk Creek Stampede

The Rattlers Team tent at Chaulk Creek Stampede in Nathrop, just south of Buena Vista.

NATHROP—The new Rio Grande Rattlers High School Mountain Bike Team traveled to Nathrop on October 7th for their final regular season race.

Sophomore girls competed in the first race with the course ringed by yellow cottonwood trees and snow-capped mountains. Kristen David (Sargent HS) finished strong in 15th place with a time of 1:18:59. In the junior varsity race rider Devin Arellano (Alamosa HS) finished in 78th place out of out 143 riders with an 18 mile time of 1:35:42.  Jackson Mumper (Alamosa HS) ended in 94th place 1:45:43 and Rand Kidd (Sargent HS) finished in 105thth place with a time of 1:48:45.


  Cameron Roberts (Monte Vista HS) finished in 4th place out of a field of 130 freshmen with a time of 53:16:75 for the 12 mile race. Ryan Astalos (Alamosa HS) finished in 104th place with a time of 1:17:25.  Daniel Macias (Monte Vista HS) came in 113th place with a time of 1:22:14 Landon Tolsma (Sargent HS) finished in 114th in a time of 1:22:23.. The final overall series results for the southern division of the Colorado High School Mountain Bike League show Devin in 86th, Jackson in 108th and Rand in 118th place out of 171 riders in the junior varsity completion. Kristen is in 20th place out of 31 riders as a Sophomore Girl.  In the

freshmen standings Cameron is in 7th, Ryan in 104th, Landon in 127th and Daniel in 143rd place out of 163 riders.  


Cameron and Kristen both qualified for the State Championship race coming up on Sunday October 22nd in Eagle Colorado.


The Rattlers helped to mark the course and served as course marshals for the 12 Hours of Penitence Mountain Bike Race on Saturday October 14th.  Proceeds from this event support Youth on Bikes including the Rattlers Team.
