Recount scheduled in ASD Board of Education District 7

ALAMOSA — Nicole Jaramillo, Alamosa County Clerk and Recorder and the official in charge of elections, has scheduled a recount in the District 7 Alamosa School District Board of Education race that took place in November. The recount is scheduled to begin  Wednesday, December 1, at 1:00pm.

According to the Secretary of State website, the current tally of votes has incumbent Amy Raya trailing challenger Patrick Alan Colvin by seven votes with Raya receiving 1526 votes and Colvin receiving 1533.

Jaramillo anticipates, but cannot guarantee, the recount will be completed Wednesday afternoon. Once the recount is completed, the official results will be forwarded to the Secretary of State’s Office, where it is expected that the election will be certified. How long that process will take is not known.

By law, election results are not considered official until certified by the office of the Secretary of State. It is expected that, once that certification takes place, the new members of the Board of Education will be sworn into office.
